I & E TECHNICIAN

Buist's Testing Department is looking for a skilled Journeyman Electrician to add to our growing team. The I&E technician will assist with day to day operations, maintenance, testing, and inspections of substation equipment and facility systems in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Job Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair industrial control systems and owner distribution systems including electric motors, motor control devices, variable speed drives.
  • Work with a team to perform preventative maintenance and calibrations to all electrical, instrumentation and process equipment.
  • Read and understand manuals, blueprints and schematics.
  • Diagnose and address functionality and safety issues.
  • Maintain accurate equipment files such as maintenance and inventory logs, manual, and blueprints.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of substation as required.
  • Log and document day to day maintenance, repairs, modifications and operational work.
  • Stay apprised of revisions to National Electric Code (NEC) and NERC requirements.
  • Complete and maintain job related documentation (i.e. Drawings, work orders and test results).
  • Communicate effectively with Co-workers, Customers, Project Managers, and other trades.
  • Practical safeguarding of all personnel and property from hazards.
  • This position requires a highly detailed, timely individual with complex problem-solving skills.

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Journeyman electrician license.
  • Strong commitment to safety, ability to work safely independently or with a team.
  • 5 years industrial electrical experience.
  • Strong mechanical skills.
  • Instrumentation and controls experience.
  • Medium voltage experience.
  • High school diploma.
  • Driver’s license.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Strong communications skills, ability to interact well with team members, other skilled trade professionals, designers, and customers.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code, state and local building codes.
  • Use of testing equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineered drawings and technical specifications.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Bluebeam.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to (50) pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish shades of color.
  • Standing, walking, lifting, bending, climbing, repetitive motions.
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions, heat and cold, noise, moving components and equipment.
