Job Purpose

Buist is a large electrical contracting, technology solutions, and engineering company providing a comprehensive list of services to our customers. The Building Automation Engineer will be responsible for the complex programming and functional performance of a complete building control system. This person will be responsible for the management, execution, and troubleshooting of control system programming, installation support, system commissioning, and owner training.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Configure, program, and implement Building Automation Systems (BAS)  including all sub-systems (i.e. security, lighting, data networks, etc.) to meet the intent of the project requirements
  • Develop and test complex software programs necessary to operate the system per the intent of the project requirements
  • Load and commission all system and network-level controllers as required
  • Conduct system validation for complete system functionality and troubleshoot problems with other trades to ensure proper operation
  • Create and modify system database and field controller programs as needed on platforms like Tridium N4, Honeywell IRM, JCI CCT, and others as needed for specific project requirements.
  • Keep the installation team and customer informed of job progress and issues
  • Configure graphical user interfaces (GUI) for system monitoring and control
  • Track field change information for the creation of as-built drawings and software
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and optimizations as part of service agreements
  • Analyze building performance data to identify energy-saving opportunities
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, control sequences, and system architecture
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers, electricians, IT teams, and facility managers
  • Provide training and support to building operators and maintenance staff
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for system upgrades and expansions
  • Implement security measures to protect BAS from cyber threats
  • Configure BAS networks, including IP addressing, firewalls, and remote access
  • Ensure integration with other building management platforms (e.g., SCADA, IoT, cloud-based solutions)
  • Manage employee and customer satisfaction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and minimum of three years of programming and engineering experience or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills required, particularly proficient in programming multiple manufacturers’ product software systems, with a key focus on Tridium N4 platform programming
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, well organized, and capable of handling multiple assignments
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience

Work Hours

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7am to 5pm.
