Buist’s industrial automation group focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure safe operations. The position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop, optimize, and maintain control systems, contributing to the technological advancement of the production process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement automation systems for manufacturing processes
  • Develop control systems using PLCs, HMI, SCADA, and other industrial automation tools
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems to improve production and ensure reliability
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for automated processes and control systems
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to understand automation needs and propose effective solutions
  • Lead automation projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring timely project completion within budget
  • Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance staff
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety guidelines, and company policies
  • Conduct regular assessments to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing automation systems to minimize downtime

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automation engineering, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.)
  • Experience with SCADA, HMI, and related control systems
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics, control panel design, networks, and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus)
  • CAD software knowledge for system layout and design is a plus

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Work Hours

  • Hours are typically Monday through Friday
  • Hours are typically 1st shift
  • After-hours on-call rotation will be required

Work Conditions

  • Environment: A mix between an office setting and production areas, which may require the use of PPE
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
  • Travel: Infrequent travel may be required to attend training, visit vendors, or oversee commissioning at remote facilities
