The Buist Testing Team is proud to partner with our valued customer base through preventative maintenance programs. With a custom-tailored approach based on each customer’s electrical system, these programs ensure a safe and dependable electrical distribution system. Planning for large-scale outages can begin as much as a year in advance, allowing preliminary predictive inspections to be performed and reports to be reviewed with the customer. This preparation also provides time for procuring materials, aligning with production scheduling, and ensuring the necessary team and equipment are in place.
This past month, the Buist team completed one of their annual shutdowns with a long-term customer. Buist and this customer have worked together for 17 years on multiple projects and day-to-day service. In this most recent maintenance shutdown, 24 members comprising the Buist Outdoor Utilities, Service, Contracting, Medium Voltage, and Testing Departments worked as a collaborative team to complete the full scope of work in a single day.
During the outage, the Buist team worked cohesively to accomplish multiple projects and repairs.
Maintenance, testing, and repairs were performed on the medium voltage primary system. This included cleaning and inspecting the overhead customer connections, pad-mount primary switches, and pad-mount transformers, as well as testing medium voltage capacitor banks and contactors. Fluid samples were taken from the customer-owned pad-mount transformers to conduct annual trending and analysis of dissolved gas, oil screen, and FURAN results. Infrared windows were also installed on several transformers to allow thermographic and visual inspections to be safely conducted during normal business hours while the facility is running production.
Select switchgear and panels also underwent maintenance and testing, including primary injection testing of main breakers.
Comprehensive reports were provided and reviewed with the customer as part of an ongoing evaluation of the site’s electrical infrastructure.
This job was a great success for the Buist Team and the customer, as all work was completed within the scheduled downtime.
