Corewell Health has completed construction of its new Ambulatory Care building, located on the Medical Mile in downtown Grand Rapids. This 12-story, 250,000 sq.ft. facility supports the future growth of ambulatory services and enables the realignment and consolidation of specialties across Corewell’s various outpatient locations. In addition to the main structure, bridges were constructed to connect two existing buildings, enhancing accessibility across the campus. Buist served as the electrical Design Assist and BIM partner on the project, providing a full scope of services throughout pre-construction, construction, and closeout. As a Design Assist partner, Buist contributed significant cost savings through early budget alignment and extensive use of prefabrication.
Buist’s scope of work included the installation of main switchboards and distribution equipment, conduit and feeders, branch wiring, power and connections to all HVAC systems and motors, lighting equipment and fixtures, exterior site lighting, and site utilities. Additional systems installed included lighting controls, fire alarm, communications infrastructure and rough-ins, nurse call, public address, clocks and program systems, as well as security systems with card access and surveillance capabilities. Grounding systems and dual parallel 1,000KW natural gas generators were also provided. To ensure performance and safety, Buist performed acceptance testing, infrared inspections, short circuit coordination, and a full arc flash study.
