Buist completed all electrical, outdoor utilities, testing, electrical engineering, communications, audio visual, and security work for the new Road Commission of Kalamazoo County project. The new 270,000 sq.ft. RCKC site consists of seven brand new buildings spread across a developed 40-acre site. The project was completed in two phases, ahead of schedule, and under budget. Buist’s scope of work included providing primary infrastructure from the road, all electrical wiring, fire alarms, communications, security, access controls, audio systems, technology, network electronics, and more. The project required a high level of organization and communication as there were multiple buildings being built at once.
The Buist team completed this project in 33k manhours and the final site consists of 1,100 light fixtures (including some custom built decorative roadway/traffic signal accent lighting), 25 miles of conduit, and 105 miles of wire/cable. Five of the buildings throughout this project had varying construction methods, each depending on the function of that specific facility.
The RCKC facilities are complete with modern technology and amenities that are specifically designed for a road and public works agency. One of the buildings features a traffic control room with technology that displays all modern intersections in Kalamazoo County. All conference rooms feature wireless presentation and conferencing capabilities, and all common spaces feature digital video messaging systems. The Buist AV team completed a state-of-the-art dividable boardroom/training room within the main building. The room features automated audio visual switching and control systems, four HD video projects, five HD cameras, a wireless presentation system, and video conference and streaming capabilities. The room also boasts automated room “modes” which, based on the position of the dividing wall, controls video and audio configurations. The team completed the room with “intelligent” noise-filtering ceiling microphones and wireless, rechargeable board member microphones.
