Buist provided audio visual, service, outdoor utilities, automation, testing, and contracting services for the renovation and expansion of WR Grace, a chemical manufacturing plant located in South Haven, MI.
Since September 2023, the Buist team has invested over 16.7 thousand hours into this project. Buist worked on three buildings, a flammable storage building, and two production buildings. The scope of work in the flammable storage building consisted of installing a complete electrical system including a fire alarm system, PA system, minor instrumentation work, and security equipment with card access. The same work was completed in the production building in addition to reworking the existing major motor and instrumentation work. All systems were wired per the classification of the buildings, which were mostly Class 1/Div 2.
A unique feature of this project was the blast-proof office trailers that subcontractors were required to have due to facility code requirements. Each trailer had to have a 100amp, 240V electrical service brought to them. There was a fiber line that ran to one of the trailers. From the fiber line, the Buist team ran conduit and cat5 cabling between all the trailers.
This project required lots of internal communication and communication with subcontractors to work effectively and safely while still meeting the deadline.
